How To Set Up The Harness?
All of our NDM 1 products are unisex and are designed and tested for both men and women. To set up the harness follow the steps below.
Put the backpack on. Adjust the horizontal chest straps to a comfortable length (The two "d-rings" allow you to change between a larger and smaller size). Use the outer ring for the large size and loop through both for the smaller size.
Adjust the vertical shoulder straps (If needed) to adjust the height of the buckle, the center buckle should align around the height of your solar plexus. Do note that a few models like Race 2.0 and Outlander PRO does not have this setting due to their low weight.

We want you to follow the instructions on the care label for each product. Care labels are typically found inside of the product. If you can’t see it, look again. If you still can’t see it, contact us.
STEPS
After every ride, empty the pack completely and brush clean soiled areas with soapy water.
Never put your pack into a washing machine or dryer, this damages the PU coating. Only hand wash.
The pack fabrics can’t be ironed.
Zippers must be kept clean for improved lifetime.
To store: close the pack and keep it in a dry, well ventilated place.

Reverse by placing your hand in the bladder, grab the bottom, and pull it back through the top opening, just like turning a sock inside-out. The molded opening can also be flipped after the bladder body has been reversed. Then, throw it in the dishwasher or rinse with mild soap and water. Make sure to let the bladder dry out completely while reversed.

Design & Action
Tearing through technical singletrack or grinding out long gravel races when you need more than just water means carrying extra layers, tools, and nutrition without the pack slapping your spine on every rock garden. The OUTLANDER XC Hydration Pack 4L is a mid-capacity mountain bike hydration pack built for riders who need room for a spare tube, energy bars, and a rain jacket while keeping the load locked down tight. USWE's patented No Dancing Monkey 1.0 harness uses a 4-point elastic suspension that clamps this pack against your back for zero-bounce stability when you're diving into steep descents or powering through punchy climbs. The stretchy harness wraps your chest without crushing your ribs, letting you suck in deep breaths while the pack stays glued in place.
Soft mesh shoulder and chest straps pump air across your torso to keep you from overheating when the sun is beating down and the trail keeps kicking up. At just 430g without the bladder, this lightweight hydration pack disappears on your back until you need to grab a gel or stuff a jacket into the main compartment. The included 1.5L Elite hydration bladder with fixed coupling keeps water flowing without leaks, and the hose routes cleanly over either shoulder so you can sip without taking your eyes off the trail.
Tech & Specs
NDM 1.0 harness: 4-point elastic suspension locks the pack to your torso for 100% bounce-free riding on rough terrain.
4L total volume: Hauls a spare tube, multi-tool, snacks, and an extra layer without turning into a cargo mule.
1.5L Elite hydration bladder: Fixed coupling system prevents leaks and delivers smooth water flow on long rides.
Ventilated mesh straps: Soft mesh across shoulders and chest keeps air moving to prevent sweat buildup.
430g pack weight: Featherweight construction keeps the load minimal for fast cross country rides and gravel racing.
Fit & Kit
Dial in the fit by adjusting the elastic chest and shoulder straps until the pack sits high on your back without riding up into your helmet. The stretchy harness should feel snug but not restrictive, giving your lungs room to expand while keeping the pack stable through technical sections. After each ride, rinse the Elite hydration bladder with warm water and hang it to dry with the opening propped open to prevent mold. The pack is compatible with USWE's NDM 1 accessories like the Action Camera Harness, Organizer Pocket, and Chest Pocket for riders who want to customize their setup for bikepacking races or all-day mountain adventures.
FAQ
Can I fit a full-face helmet and knee pads in the 4L pack?+
No, the 4L capacity is designed for essentials like a spare tube, multi-tool, snacks, and a lightweight jacket. For bulkier gear like helmets or pads, check out the OUTLANDER XC 10L.
Does the hydration hose route on the left or right side?+
The hose routes cleanly over either shoulder, so you can set it up for left or right-side drinking based on your preference.
Will this pack work for trail running or is it just for biking?+
It's built specifically for mountain biking and gravel riding with a high-back fit that works with a helmet. Trail runners typically prefer a lower-profile vest design.
Can I add extra pockets or a tool pouch to this pack?+
Yes, the NDM 1.0 harness is compatible with USWE accessories like the Organizer Pocket, Chest Pocket, Phone Pocket, and Action Camera Harness for custom setups.
How do I prevent the bladder from getting moldy between rides?+
Rinse the Elite bladder with warm water after each ride, then hang it upside down with the opening propped open so it dries completely before storage.
This is a great pack. My so. Loves his. This was the pack he used for the Unbound Gravel 100 Mile Race. This was a rough year but he completed it (after the peanut butter mud, some mechanicals and a crash) in about 6 hours. Not bad for a 14 year old and his first time with Unbound! Unfortunately after the race as he stood with his team and photos, somebody took his pack. Never could find it. But, this was the only one he wants to use so had to get another one! 😊
It took only a couple of minutes to adjust the pack to a perfect fit with the velcro adjustment straps. The NDM closure system is great. So far I've raced with the pack (Ironman 70.3 Oregon) and used it on training rides and it works great and feels more sleek than the Nathan pack I've been using. It's room enough to carry the few emergency items that I need for racing and for warm weather riding. It would be a bit too small for cold weather extras. My sole complaint is the valve on the bladder: it doesn't have a positive closure mechanism like the hydrapak bladders I use now and it doesn't look like the hose and bite valve are easily replaced after I bite a hole in the bite valve and it starts to leak! Otherwise, it's great.
This pack has been an absolute game changer for my longer rides and rides during the hot summer months where I live. My only gripe is that the bladder it comes with does not have a plug and play hose, which means the whole thing, including the hose, has to be removed from the pack to be cleaned. I have now replaced the original bladder with a Hydrapak bladder that has pug and play, but it would have been really nice if I didn’t have to do that.
Bought this for my son who races xc. He absolutely loves it. He can carry water and enough essentials for training rides and still use his rear jersey pockets. He says it's a really comfortable fit and doesn't bounce around. The only problem now is his sister also wants one!!
Absolutely love the pack and the Action Camera Harness. I made good use of both at Palo Duro Canyon State Park in Texas and at 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo race in Arizona. I only wish it had come with the plug and play coupling on the bladder instead of the bladder with fixed coupling. The fixed coupling makes it much harder to clean. You should consider making the plug and play available for all packs and get rid of the fixed coupling.
After spending too much time deliberating over which hydration pack to buy, watching reviews, and finally checking out the USWE range I then procrastinated over which model o should be buying. Thankfully they have a range that suits almost everyone and I went for the outlander XC, even though my style is enduro I felt this offered the best compactness vs storage. This new model is great as it has more breathable straps and has just the right size water storage and room for nutrition, a few tools and action camera accessories. Took it to Ard Rock for its first outing and it was perfect.
Personally i find it a perfect stepup from the 2L version. . . . You can fit a jacket or a windvest in there to open up some more space in your jersey. . . Perfect for long rides, fast packing and spontaneous rides where you can never be too sure if youll need the extra space
Kind of disappointed it was really odd and there made in China I thought I was getting a Swiss product you know better than average but nope it's been in China I never checked the water packs I have two of them maybe I should
