What happens when a deeply social creature has to fight its own fight? Mountainbiking is often about being social, but today's race was all racing. A massive day climbing wise as our athletes had to ascend 2700m and a relative short stretch of 76 kilometers. Many teams rode in solitude, feeling like they were the only people on earth.
As the drop-out in the race increases, our athletes must go on. See how they handle it in today's episode.
Will the elements obstruct our rush for glory? Or will we use them to get an edge over our opponents? When racing for eight days everything must be on point: nutrition, recovery after the stages, and more. A lot of planning goes into the stages but when you’re on the tracks you need to adjust and think on your toes to conquer.
See how our athletes must adapt to gain an advantage on stage 5 of Absa Cape Epic 2022.
Anyone who said that this day was easy, was lying! Stage 4 was a big changeup from the past days. It was wet, muddy and tons of rocks, total chaos! And our athletes loved it. Going for 82km on the trails of Greyton with a climb of 1650 meters you must remember; when you’re hurting ascending that huge hill, everyone else does too! See how our athletes were deceived and must go in expecting nothing.
Why do we hate change? Fear of the unknown? But change can also be a catalyst for life’s most significant moments. Today our athletes are racing 101km in the heat and dust on the trails of Greyton. High speed and high risk are key today as they must go a blistering pace climbing 2250m. The track changes half way through and perfect teamwork will be of high importance. Will our Athletes pass the test?
The first stage of the Absa Cape Epic 2022 is taking our athletes on a 92-kilometer journey into the wilderness of South Africa. Exposed under the extreme heat of the sun you are really put to the test, and you must perform your absolute best to have the energy for the brutal 2850m of climbing. There’s nowhere to hide!
