Will the elements obstruct our rush for glory? Or will we use them to get an edge over our opponents? When racing for eight days everything must be on point: nutrition, recovery after the stages, and more. A lot of planning goes into the stages but when you’re on the tracks you need to adjust and think on your toes to conquer.
See how our athletes must adapt to gain an advantage on stage 5 of Absa Cape Epic 2022.
Stage 5
There’s no easing into the climb of Rusy Gate this year! Right after leaving Elandskloof our athletes heads straight on to the classic ascent. After that, it’s undulating kilometers following along the banks of the Theewaterskloof Dam and then the longest asphalt section of the race. After our athletes pass the Hugunot village theres more singletracks before they cross the river and face steep uphill once more. Lastly they are rewarding with a gnarly descent to Stellenbosch.
